Ruth Covell Award in Geriatrics
Theresa Wong, MD, UCSD School of Medicine, Class of 2017, was the inaugural recipient of the Ruth Covell Award in Geriatrics. This award is given to a graduating medical student who has expressed an interest in and demonstrated a commitment to geriatrics through scholarly activities, leadership, and/or participation in geriatrics programs at UC San Diego. This award was established in 2017 thanks to the generous support of Dr. Ruth Covell, UC San Diego School of Medicine Faculty Emeritus.
Dr. Wong was the immediate past President of the UCSD School of Medicine Geriatrics Interest Group, and is conducting research on Prognosis Communication with Disabled Seniors with Dr. Alex Smith and others at UCSF. She will be a resident in the Internal Medicine Residency at UCSF in July.
Dean Norman, MD recently published an article entitled "Geriatric Infectious Diseases: Current Concepts on Diagnosis and Management" in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
