About UsThe UC San Diego Division of Geriatrics is dedicated to promoting healthy aging through patient care, medical education, and research.
Under her direction, the Geriatrics Division offers patient care through UC San Diego's hospitals and clinics and advanced medical training in geriatrics through an accredited fellowship program. In addition, UC San Diego Geriatrics researchers are engaged in a variety of studies of aging. These studies are primarily focused on the molecular mechanisms of aging, including the important impact of inflammation on the brain and how it relates to our vulnerability to injury and neurodegenerative conditions with aging.

News
Congratulations to Dr. Legner, who is one of UC San Diego Health System's honorees on the 2011 "San Diego's Top Doctors" list. Kwi Bulow, MD, has moved from the VA San Diego Healthcare System to UC San Diego Health System's Medicine for Seniors Clinic in La Jolla.
The UC San Diego Division of Geriatrics was ranked as one of the top 50 “America’s Best Hospitals” for Geriatrics by U.S.News & World Report in 2010. This is a tremendous accomplishment, especially given that we have been a formal division for only three years! Congratulations to Laura Dugan, MD, who has received an R01 grant by the National Institute on Aging titled “Systemic Inflammation and Central Nervous System Dysfunction.” This grant will provide five years of funding for her lab to investigate the role of inflammatory pathway activation and specifically IL-6 on mechanisms involved in cognitive dysfunction and vulnerability in aging! Thanks to the receipt of a recent grant from the UC San Diego Department of Telemedicine, the Division of Geriatrics is launching a new telemedicine program designed to bring specialized geriatrics care to nearby rural communities. For more information on this program, please contact Jennifer Reichstadt at (619) 543-7832 or jreichst@ucsd.edu. |
