Postdoctoral positions available immediately in the Dugan Laboratory, UCSD.
Position 1: The applicant will study the molecular and cellular basis of inflammatory signaling in the nervous system, and will use cell culture and animal models to compare physiological versus pathological consequences of this signaling. Several animal models of diseases linked to altered inflammatory cascades in brain will be studied. The ideal candidate would have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with a strong background in the neurosciences and molecular biology. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques, fluorescence microscopy, and immunocyto/histochemistry required. Ability to perform minor surgical procedures (rodents), confocal microscopy on cell cultures or tissue slices, standard behavioral testing, or ICV injections using stereotactic equipment a plus. Interested candidates should forward their research interests and CV to mpacheco@ucsd.edu.
Position 2: The applicant will be responsible for studies to characterize the molecular and cellular sources of reactive oxygen species in diabetes, obesity, and related end-organ changes, focusing primarily on the central and peripheral nervous system, including muscle. Various transgenic and pharmacological models will be used. The ideal candidate would have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with a strong background in the neurosciences, cell biology and biochemistry. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques and with animal models of disease highly preferred. Ability to perform confocal microscopy, tissue histology, or mitochondrial isolation and analysis would be valuable. Interested candidates should forward their research interests and CV to mpacheco@ucsd.edu.
